Veteran's Day Blues Boot Camp Photos
and article by Blues Boss
Those of you who chose to go out on a Sunday night
(November 11th) were treated to some very fine blues. You
could have gone to Jazzbones in Tacoma for the "Blue Road to
Memphis" Competition (congratulations to the winner - Nick
Vigarino's Meantown Blues - featuring Rob Moitoza on bass, Sue Orfield
on sax and Chris Leighton on drums ), or if you didn't want to drive all
that way you could have gone to the "Veteran's Day Blues Boot Camp"
at the Tractor Tavern in Ballard. If you stayed home with a holiday
on Monday - shame on you...
If you chose to be "drafted" (or were smart enough to
enlist) into the Boot Camp you got the double blues drill instruction of
Dave Conant & the D-Rangers and David Brewer & the
Intimidator. Guaranteed excellent "blues" training.
Dave Conant & the D-Rangers (with Bill "Double
Duty" Freckleton on bass and "Out of Retirement" Rick Howell on drums)
opened the evening. "Drill Instructor" Dave teased the crowd with
his own brand of "blues". A real "Top Sergeant" of the Seattle blues
scene. There was even some wonderful "slide" guitar
instruction. This is definitely required basic training for the blues.
The second set featured the "machine shop" (or
maybe in this case "motor pool") blues of Dave Brewer and
the Intimidators ("Double Duty" Freckleton on Bass, Nick "Coupe" DeVille
on drums and Raven Humphrey adding some nice sax to the mix). As
always, Dave whipped the Boot Camp troops into shape with his rousing
guitar work and raspy vocals.
If you stayed home to
watch Saving Private Ryan ,which you can always rent that, you
missed some very fine blues!
Get on the local
"blues" bandwagon!!!
